Tonight, if the government shuts

While congress just sits on its butts,

Out of touch and aloof

So many give proof

That they have neither conscience or guts.

It does take a damnable nerve

To skewer the people they serve,

And flatter and cower

Or strut their own power –

The one thing they wish to preserve
